Mariana  (she/her/they) is a queer and neurodivergent artist and hcpc registered art psychotherapist originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, and third generation of Sempertex.

Her work brings together creativity, mental health and community, with a focus on making therapy and social connection more accessible. Her journey began in Digital Arts, followed by an MFA in London. Her experiences working in care and education, alongside her own experience of mental health services, led her to train as an Art Psychotherapist in Edinburgh.

In 2024, while completing her dissertation, Mariana founded Creative Arts Therapies Space (CATS), a community interest company created to make therapy more financially accessible while supporting newly qualified therapists. Since last year, CATS has received 160 self-referrals and now works with 17 therapists, with plans to grow the team to 30 to increase its capacity to provide support. CATS is also partnering with three established third-sector organisations to extend its reach.

Mariana combines her experience as an artist, therapist and entrepreneur with a strong belief in the power of creativity to create meaningful change. Her ambition is to continue growing CATS through outreach and collaboration, developing a sustainable model that can reach more communities while creating opportunities for therapists and strengthening access to creative mental health support.
