Kai Horwitz von Appen is a member of AEF Chile, and is the founder of Makana. Kai Horwitz von Appen is co-founder and CEO of Makana, a Chilean company that brings integral health to the workplace. At its core is Alma, an AI that knows each person and connects five dimensions of wellbeing: nutrition, mental health, physical health, finances and social life. Makana works with companies across Chile and has grown to more than USD 500K in annual recurring revenue. The idea came from his first venture, Masaje Pro, a recovery equipment brand he founded in 2021. Selling recovery gear, he saw that body, mind, food and money are inseparable, and that nobody was connecting them. Earlier, Kai was a member of Chile's national alpine ski team, a four-time national champion and an Olympian at PyeongChang 2018. He holds a degree in kinesiology from Universidad de los Andes and belongs to the next generation of the von Appen family. Outside work, you will usually find him kitesurfing.
